IIT Roorkee has issued a clarification regarding reports of an alleged data breach involving JEE Advanced 2026 candidates. The institute stated that claims suggesting a privacy violation affecting lakhs of aspirants are misleading and factually incorrect.
The clarification comes during the ongoing JoSAA Counselling 2026, which commenced on June 02, 2026. IIT Roorkee emphasized that the reported issue was limited to a temporary technical misconfiguration and did not compromise the integrity of the examination or counselling process.
IIT Roorkee Explains JEE Advanced 2026 Technical Issue
According to the institute, technical interventions were carried out on June 02, 2026, to help candidates facing difficulties in accessing admit card-related information and to ensure smooth functioning of the registration process.
During this process, a temporary misconfiguration occurred in a cloud storage component. The issue was identified and reported by an ethical hacker, following which access restrictions were immediately implemented and the configuration was corrected.
The institute stated that the problem was addressed promptly and no continuing exposure of data occurred after corrective measures were taken.
No Impact on JEE Advanced 2026 Results or JoSAA Seat Allotment
IIT Roorkee has assured candidates that the incident had no effect on any critical examination or admission-related records. The institute clarified that the following remained completely unaffected:
- JEE Advanced 2026 marks
- Candidate ranks
- Category information
- JoSAA 2026 seat allocation process
- Examination outcomes
- Counselling records
Candidates participating in counselling can continue with the admission process without concern regarding result validity or seat allotment procedures.
IIT Roorkee Issues Advisory on Class 12 Eligibility Requirement
Along with the clarification, IIT Roorkee recently issued an important advisory concerning the 75% Class 12 eligibility criterion for admission through JEE Advanced.
Candidates from the CBSE board who are currently unable to meet the required percentage due to the ongoing OSM-related issue have been granted temporary relief. Such candidates can continue participating in JoSAA Counselling 2026and submit revised scorecards by July 15, 2026. This measure is intended to ensure that eligible students are not disadvantaged while the board-related matter is being addressed.
