IIT Kanpur Launches Bachelor of Cybersecurity Degree Admission Open For 2026 Session

The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur has introduced a unique four-year undergraduate program in cybersecurity. Students do not need a JEE Advanced rank to apply for this course. Selection will involve JEE Main scores, past cyber work, and an on-campus hackathon.
The IIT Kanpur Bachelor of Cybersecurity undergraduate degree has been officially launched for the upcoming 2026-27 academic session. The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur announced this special program to train young students as digital security experts. Classes for the first batch of this brand-new course will begin in July 2026. Interestingly, students do not need to qualify for the highly difficult JEE Advanced exam to secure a seat in this program. Instead, the institute will select candidates through a unique process that tests actual coding and hacking skills. The application details and registration portal will go live next week on the official website at iitk.ac.in.

IIT Kanpur Bachelor of Cybersecurity: Eligibility Criteria
The engineering college has set up a completely different set of rules for selecting students for this course.You can read about the minimum qualifications and the multiple stages of screening in this section. The initial shortlisting of candidates will be done based on their JEE Main performance.
Along with the test scores, the department will also look for evidence of prior practical work in the field of cybersecurity, such as finding bugs or working on security tools. After this first screening round, shortlisted students must visit the campus for an in-person assessment. This physical test will include a competitive hackathon where students have to solve live cyber challenges. This method allows talented ethical hackers, who might not get top ranks in traditional written exams, to study at a premier institute. The entire program will be run by the Wadhwani School of AI and Intelligent Systems.
IIT Kanpur Bachelor of Cybersecurity: 4 Year Course Structure
The bachelor degree of Cybersecurity has been planned carefully to mix classroom knowledge with real-world field experience. The entire duration of the course is divided into two distinct halves to give students maximum practical exposure. Here is how the four-year degree program is structured for the students:
- The first two years will focus entirely on standard theoretical subjects on the main campus.
- Students will spend time inside advanced laboratories to learn about digital safety in controlled environments.
- The remaining two years of the degree will be completely dedicated to practical learning out in the field.
- Students will undergo long-term internships with various secure government security organisations.
- During these internships, young learners will work directly on solving critical national cyber challenges.
