Union Minister Reviews Odisha’s Progress in Education Sector, as Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan chaired a high-level meeting with Odisha School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond and senior officials in New Delhi on 09 January 2026. The meeting focused on assessing ongoing initiatives and identifying measures to strengthen the education system across the state.
Focus on NEP Implementation and Curriculum Reforms
During the review, emphasis was laid on the effective implementation of the National Education Policy in Odisha. Discussions also covered the preparation of new textbooks aligned with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education, aimed at improving learning outcomes and curriculum relevance. Progress of various centrally sponsored education schemes currently being implemented in Odisha was also reviewed during the meeting.
Measures to Reduce Dropout Rates and Improve Access
Strategies were discussed to reduce school dropout rates and ensure quality, inclusive, equitable, and universal education across the state. Officials highlighted the importance of targeted interventions to support students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The discussions underscored the need for sustained reforms to strengthen school infrastructure, teaching quality, and student retention.
Vision for a Future-Ready Odisha by 2036
The meeting also focused on long-term goals, with education reforms being positioned as a key pillar in building a future-ready and prosperous Odisha by 2036. The state government reiterated its commitment to transforming the education sector through systematic planning and collaboration with the Centre.
Centre Assures Support for Odisha’s Education Reforms
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stated that the Centre remains committed to supporting Odisha’s education initiatives. He highlighted cooperation between the Union and state governments as essential for strengthening the education system. Senior officials from both the Union Ministry of Education and the Odisha education department were present at the meeting.
