All schools, colleges and universities in Jammu and Kashmir have been ordered closed for two days starting March 2, 2026, as authorities take precautionary measures amid prevailing tensions and law and order concerns in the region. The government’s decision affects both government and private recognised educational institutions across the Kashmir division, including higher education campuses. The move aims to ensure the safety of students, staff and faculty amid protests and security developments in the area.
Closure of Schools, Colleges and Universities
- All government and private schools across the Kashmir division will remain closed on March 2 and March 3, 2026.
- Colleges and higher education institutions, including degree colleges, technical colleges and other campuses, are also shut for the same period.
- Routine classwork and academic activities at institutions such as the Central University of Kashmir and the University of Kashmir have been suspended.
Official orders from the Director School Education Kashmir and the Directorate of Colleges, Higher Education Department confirmed these closures, outlining that the decisions were taken in the interest of administration and student security.
University Exams Postponed
All university examinations scheduled on March 2 and March 3, 2026 have been postponed. Notifications from the examination cells of various colleges and universities state that fresh dates will be announced separately once the situation stabilises.Institutions affected include:
- Cluster University Srinagar (CUS) – all exams on March 2 and 3 postponed.
- University of Kashmir (KU) – exams scheduled on March 2 postponed.
- Government Degree College Baramulla – exams on March 2 deferred.
- Islamia College Srinagar – exams scheduled for March 2, 3 and 4 deferred with new dates to be released later.
