All schools and colleges in Kashmir Valley will remain closed on 2 March 2026 and 3 March 2026. The institutions were earlier scheduled to reopen on 2 March for Classes 9 to 12 after a nearly three-month winter vacation. However, authorities postponed the reopening as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order in the region.
Officials stated that the decision was taken to ensure the safety of students and staff. Security has been strengthened in sensitive areas, including parts of the old city and several uptown localities.
Reason Behind Kashmir School and College Closure
The closure has been ordered to prevent any untoward incidents amid rising tensions. Authorities indicated that the move aims to ensure that no disruption occurs during the reopening phase.
Education Minister Sakina Itoo stated that the temporary suspension of classes is necessary to help maintain peace and safeguard educational institutions. Security forces have been deployed in vulnerable areas across the Valley.
University Exams Postponed in Kashmir
Along with school closures, university examinations scheduled for 2 March 2026 and 3 March 2026 have also been postponed. The University of Kashmir confirmed that fresh dates will be announced later through the official website and concerned colleges. Several higher education institutions have suspended classes and examinations. These include:
- Central University of Kashmir – Classes suspended
- University of Kashmir – Exams postponed and classes suspended
- Islamic University of Science and Technology – Classes and exams postponed
- Cluster University Srinagar – Academic activities suspended
- Government Degree College Baramulla and Islamia College Srinagar – Exams postponed
Students have been advised to stay in contact with their respective colleges and monitor official notifications for updates on revised exam schedules and reopening dates. Further decisions regarding continuation of classes will depend on the prevailing situation in the region.
