WBCHSE to Introduce AI and Project-Based Subjects at Higher Secondary Level

The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education will introduce contemporary and project-based subjects at the Higher Secondary level from the next academic session. The initiative aims to modernise the curriculum and align it with emerging academic and career fields. WBCHSE president Chiranjib Bhattacharrya stated that the move is designed to increase student engagement and make learning more relevant to present-day requirements.

WBCHSE Council Assisted Courses (CAC) Subjects

Several subjects introduced over the past three years will now be brought under Council Assisted Courses (CAC). The Council will also conduct regular online classes beyond school hours for enrolled students. The subjects to be included under CAC are:

  • Artificial Intelligence & Data Science (AIDS)
  • Applied Artificial Intelligence (APAI)
  • Cyber Security (CBST)

These courses will primarily be delivered online. However, district-wise offline classes may be organised if necessary. The Council will maintain a centralised database of students and their chosen subjects.

WBCHSE Council Taught Courses (CTC) Project-Based Subjects

In addition to CAC subjects, the Council will introduce new project-based courses under Council Taught Courses (CTC). Under this model, the Council will directly oversee teaching and implementation. The proposed CTC subjects include:

  • Entrepreneurship and Related Legal Rights (ERLR)
  • Intellectual Property Rights and Laws (IPRL)
  • Indology (INDO)
  • Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship (SDGC)

Qualified subject experts will conduct classes through online platforms, including live sessions and pre-recorded lectures. Schools interested in offering these subjects must apply as per the prescribed criteria.

WBCHSE Curriculum Update and Notification

The Council stated that these interdisciplinary subjects are expected to generate greater interest among students and equip them with skills relevant to evolving academic and professional landscapes. Detailed guidelines and the operational framework will be released through an official notification before implementation in the upcoming academic session.
