O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) recently hosted a senior delegation from the University of Tokyo (UTokyo) as part of the India–Japan Higher Education Conclave 2025. The visit is part of a six-day India tour covering Delhi, Ahmedabad, and Bengaluru, aimed at strengthening bilateral academic collaboration, research initiatives, and student mobility. JGU currently maintains an exclusive institutional partnership with UTokyo and over 25 university-wide collaborations with leading Japanese institutions. The conclave, themed “Future of Global Education: India and Japan as Leaders of Knowledge and Innovation”, seeks to enhance international education linkages through dialogue, joint research, and cross-border academic programs. It is designed to foster two-way student and faculty mobility, catalyze collaborative research, and support the internationalisation of higher education ecosystems in both countries.
India–Japan Higher Education Conclave 2025: Key Highlights
The India–Japan Higher Education Conclave provides a platform for university leaders, government officials, and faculty members to discuss innovative education strategies. Special sessions were conducted in each city, showcasing India’s academic strengths and Japan’s global education initiatives. These events are expected to result in new joint programs, collaborative research projects, and student exchange opportunities between the two countries. UTokyo delegation included Professor Hayashi, Executive Vice President for Global and Diversity Affairs, who emphasized internationalisation, diversity, and academic partnership innovation. She highlighted JGU’s commitment to inclusive education and appreciated campus initiatives like the Museum of Constitution and Moot Court facilities.
Academic Pathways and Student Mobility Initiatives
Professor (Dr.) Yujin Yaguchi, Vice President (Global Education) at UTokyo, focused on designing academic pathways and joint or dual degree programs. Discussions explored structured short-term exchanges and integrated degree programs to enhance intercultural competencies and collaborative research opportunities. He praised JGU’s efforts in broadening student exposure through study-abroad programs in Japan.
Collaborative Research and Future Roadmap
During the tour, both universities identified opportunities for faculty exchange, joint seminars, hybrid learning, and co-created research initiatives. Professor (Dr.) Akhil Bhardwaj, Vice Dean at JGU, stated that the tri-city tour would establish strong foundations for long-term academic cooperation, connecting universities, industry, and government stakeholders. The delegation will conclude its India visit on December 12, 2025, culminating in a roadmap to enhance resilient, future-ready India–Japan higher-education linkages, strengthening research, innovation, and global academic networks.
