DU UG Admissions 2025: Spot Admission & Open Mop-up Rounds

More than 9,000 undergraduate seats are still lying vacant across Delhi University colleges despite several mop-up rounds under the CSAS portal.

DU to Hold Open Mop-up Round

In the latest Executive Council (EC) meeting, DU Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh suggested that an Open Mop-up round be conducted to fill vacant UG seats. Under this process, students will be allowed direct spot admissions through physical reporting at colleges. The EC members authorised the VC to draft a formal policy for implementing the open mop-up system.

Admission Policy & Quota Updates

  • DU has already shifted from CUET UG scores to Class 12 results for admissions in some colleges due to vacant seats.
  • On ECA and Sports quota admissions, the VC clarified that the combined 5% quota remains intact. Colleges may divide it in a 3:2 ratio based on available facilities.

NEP 2020: Fourth-Year UG Focus

Discussing the fourth year of undergraduate programmes under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Prof. Singh proposed creating research discussion rooms in every college to promote academic engagement.

New PhD Course Guidelines

The EC also approved uniform PhD course guidelines applicable from the 2025–26 academic session.

  • Total 12–16 credits required.
  • 4 credits: Research Methodology / Advanced Research Methodology.
  • 2 credits: Research Publication Ethics.
  • 2 credits: Research Tools.
  • 4 credits: Discipline Specific Elective (DSE).
  • An additional 4 credits may be earned through DSE.
  • PhD courses must be of a higher level than postgraduate programmes and count towards faculty workload.
