The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP) has introduced a new requirement for Class 10 and 12 board exams in 2026, mandating that students write their roll number and sheet number on every page of the answer booklet. The rule aims to prevent answer-sheet manipulation and enhance evaluation transparency.

UP Board Makes Roll Number Mandatory on Every Answer Page for 2026

The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP) has announced a new directive for the UP Board Class 10 and Class 12 examinations 2026: students must now write their roll number and sheet (copy) number on every page of their answer booklets. This requirement is part of broader efforts to improve evaluation integrity ahead of the exams scheduled to begin in February 2026.

UP Board 10th and 12th New Answer-Sheet Rule to Prevent Tampering

Under the updated instruction, more than 53 lakh students expected to appear in the UP Board 2026 exams must clearly inscribe their roll number and sheet number on each page they write answers. Previously, students were typically required to write this information only on the final page or cover of the answer booklet. UPMSP officials have said the change is designed to prevent tampering, manipulation and replacement of individual pages after students submit them for evaluation. Invigilators will be responsible for ensuring the rule is followed during exam sessions, with additional checks to stop unfair practices.

How Will It Be Implemented?

To implement the rule effectively:

  • Centre supervisors and invigilators will supervise that candidates write their roll and sheet numbers on every page before exam commencement.
  • Students will be instructed not to leave any page blank without the required identifiers.
  • Those failing to comply may face issues during evaluation, as answer sheets without complete identifiers could cause delays or rejection during scanning and checking.

This measure complements other anti-malpractice strategies introduced by UPMSP, including secure printing features and stricter centre protocols introduced in recent years.

What UP Board 10th and 12th Students Need to Know

Students appearing in the UP Board 10th and 12th examinations must familiarise themselves with the updated rule before their exams begin. Candidates should:

  • Ensure their roll and sheet numbers are legibly written on every page of the answer booklet.
  • Follow all invigilator instructions to avoid procedural violations.
  • Check that pages are not left blank without identifiers.

This change is expected to enhance the transparency and fairness of the board evaluation process as the board moves toward conducting the largest school-level examinations in the state.
