SSC Announces 7,948 Vacancies for MTS and Havaldar Posts

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has officially released a revised vacancy list for its MTS (Multi-Tasking Staff) and Havaldar (CBIC & CBN) examinations 2025, totaling 7,948 openings across various regions in India. The announcement includes a detailed region-wise tentative breakup to help aspirants assess opportunities state by state. Among the total vacancies, the Commission has allocated 6,810 positions for MTS and 1,138 for Havaldar roles. The distribution spans across categories including unreserved, OBC, SC, ST, EWS, and reservation for PwD and ex-servicemen.

Regionally, the Northern Region, including Delhi, emerges with the highest share of vacancies — Delhi alone has about 1,961 MTS posts. Other states like Maharashtra (732), West Bengal (542) and several southern states also feature in the vacancy list, offering nationwide recruitment opportunities.

What Aspirants Need to Know & Next Steps?

The vacancy announcement is tentative, and SSC reserves the right to revise numbers before final selection based on departmental requirements. Candidates who have already applied — or are planning to apply — should keep these points in mind:

  • Check the official vacancy PDF on SSC’s website for detailed region-wise and category-wise breakdown.
  • The upcoming exam dates and admit-card release schedule will be announced soon; aspirants are advised to monitor official SSC notifications regularly.
  • Ensure eligibility criteria are met before applying: educational qualification, age limit, and category certificates.
  • Candidates should start preparation accordingly — competition will be high given the national reach and number of applicants.

What This Means for Jobseekers & Government Staffing?

The large vacancy count — nearly 8,000 posts — indicates that SSC is ramping up recruitment to fill multiple non-gazetted central government roles through MTS and Havaldar exams. For jobseekers across India, this presents a major opportunity for stable government employment. For the administration, timely recruitment will help address workforce shortages in various departments and departments under Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) and Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) through systematic staffing procedures.
