The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) has finalised a new entrepreneurship curriculum for Class 12, marking a major step towards strengthening innovation, self-reliance, and employment-oriented education in the state. The announcement was made in Chandigarh on November twenty-seven, as part of the government’s broader skill development strategy. The newly designed curriculum completes a two-year entrepreneurship learning pathway for senior secondary students. The initiative aims to create early exposure to business concepts, problem-solving skills, and startup thinking at the school level.
Curriculum Finalised After Two-Year Learning Framework
According to Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, the Class 12 entrepreneurship course has been structured as a continuation of structured learning introduced at the Class 11 level. The purpose is to ensure that students receive sustained exposure to entrepreneurship across two academic years. The board focused on building a curriculum that supports:
- Innovation and creativity
- Financial and business literacy
- Independent thinking
- Job creation mindset
The updated framework is expected to support students who wish to pursue entrepreneurship immediately after school as well as those planning higher education in business and management.
Link to Business Blaster Programme Launched Earlier
The Class 12 entrepreneurship curriculum builds on the existing ‘Business Blaster Programme’, which was introduced for Class 11 in the academic year two thousand twenty-two to two thousand twenty-three. That programme encouraged students to develop business ideas through practical exposure and project-based learning. The Punjab Education Minister appreciated the efforts of PSEB in expanding the programme and implementing a structured learning progression from Class 11 to Class 12. The earlier programme received a positive response from students and educators, and its success played a key role in designing the advanced curriculum.
Focus on Innovation, Self-Reliance, and Employment
The new course is aligned with the state government’s education reform agenda focused on:
- Promoting self-employment opportunities
- Reducing early dependence on traditional job markets
- Encouraging startup culture among youth
- Developing real-world problem-solving skills
Students will be introduced to practical business concepts such as idea generation, market understanding, budgeting, operational planning, and basic financial management. The board aims to ensure that students acquire both conceptual knowledge and real-world application skills through the course.
Implementation Expected from Upcoming Academic Session
The Class 12 entrepreneurship curriculum is expected to be implemented from the upcoming academic session under the Punjab Board. Detailed subject guidelines, training modules for teachers, and assessment frameworks are likely to be released separately by PSEB. Schools affiliated with the Punjab Board will receive official instructions regarding subject selection, marking schemes, and examination formats once the implementation notification is issued.
Strengthening School-Level Skill Education in Punjab
With the introduction of entrepreneurship as a mainstream academic subject at the senior secondary level, Punjab joins the growing list of states focusing on skill-linked education at the school stage. Education experts believe that such early exposure can significantly improve:
- Youth employability
- Business awareness
- Economic participation at the grassroots level
The initiative is also expected to align with national education goals related to vocational training, innovation, and economic self-sufficiency.
