Punjab PG Medical Bond Service Penalty Raised, Tenure Extended

Punjab Government revises bond service policy for postgraduate (PG) medical students, increasing the bond amount and extending the service tenure for students who fail to fulfil their bond obligations. The notification, issued on 22 September 2025, applies to both state quota and All India quota PG medical students. This move aims to ensure compliance with the service conditions and reduce dropout or avoidance of mandatory bond service after completing PG medical education.

Revised Bond Service Tenure and Amount

The Punjab bond service policy now specifies that candidates other than in-service regular PCMS/PCMS students must serve for three years and provide an Indemnity Bond/Bank Guarantee of INR 30 Lakh. For All India quota candidates, the bond tenure has been revised to two years, with the bond amount set at INR 20 Lakh. Previously, the state quota bond tenure was two years with INR 20 Lakh, and the All India quota tenure was one year with INR 15 Lakh. The table below summarises the revised bond service details:

Notification and Implementation

The Principal Secretary, Department of Medical Education and Research, Punjab, issued the notification confirming these changes. The revised bond service policy applies to upcoming PG medical admissions and aims to ensure that candidates complete their mandatory service tenure in the state. The government emphasised that the updated bond service will help maintain an adequate medical workforce in Punjab, ensuring students serve in designated hospitals or institutions before seeking opportunities elsewhere.

Impact on Students

  • State quota candidates now face a higher financial commitment with a longer service tenure.
  • All India quota students also experience an increase in bond amount and tenure, ensuring better compliance with the service requirements.
  • The revision aligns with the state’s objective to retain medical professionals in public health services and strengthen healthcare infrastructure.
