IIM Sambalpur has welcomed the inaugural batch of its Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Programme in Data Science & AI and B.S. Programme in Management & Public Policy at its Sambalpur campus in Odisha. Admissions for these programmes were made through JEE (Main) 2025 and CUET (UG) 2025, reflecting the institute’s alignment with NEP 2020 objectives.
The first batch consists of 178 students, with 88 enrolled in Data Science & AI and 90 in Management & Public Policy, representing over 20 states, including Bihar, Odisha, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Lakshadweep.
IIM Sambalpur B.S. Programme 2025: Gender and Regional Diversity
The distribution of students across gender shows 69 male and 19 female students in Data Science & AI, while Management & Public Policy has 51 male and 39 female students. This mix highlights the institute’s commitment to inclusive education.
Admission Process and Academic Credentials
Admissions to the B.S. in Data Science & AI were based on JEE (Main) 2025, with the highest admitted rank at 44,645. For the B.S. in Management & Public Policy, admissions were based on CUET (UG) 2025, where top scorers achieved a 99.80 percentile.
Inaugural Event Highlights
The inaugural ceremony featured Ratnesh Jha, Executive Director, UN Global Compact Network India, as the chief guest. Guests of honour included Amit Sareen, Managing Director at Accenture, and Anjan A, Vice President at North Trust. Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director of IIM Sambalpur, along with faculty and students, were present.
During the event, Prof. Jaiswal said, “Launching these B.S. programmes is a historic step for IIM Sambalpur. The courses are anchored in Integrity and Innovation, offering strong foundations in data analysis, critical reasoning, and evidence-based decision-making. These cross-functional courses are designed to develop responsible leaders capable of addressing societal and industrial challenges with innovation, compassion, and a global outlook.”
Programme Overview
Bachelor of Science in Management & Public Policy: This programme focuses on Sustainability, ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance), and community-led development, preparing students to bridge the gap between policy and practice at the grassroots level.
Bachelor of Science in Data Science & Artificial Intelligence: Designed to strengthen India’s digital capabilities, this programme equips students with future-ready skills in AI and data science, co-designed with industry leaders. Ethical AI practices and global competitiveness form a core part of the curriculum. The launch of these programmes positions IIM Sambalpur as a pioneer in undergraduate education in management, policy, and technology, contributing to India’s evolving higher education landscape.
