With the JKAS Exam 2025 scheduled on December 7, aspirants continue to wait for a formal government order on age relaxation, despite months of verbal assurances from top officials, including the Chief Minister. The delay has created uncertainty among candidates who have been seeking clarity since the recruitment cycle began.
Aspirants Say Age Relaxation Assurances Began in June 2025
Aspirants said the issue has been pending since June 2025, when the JKAS recruitment process commenced. They told KNS that multiple meetings with officials in Srinagar and Jammu resulted in repeated verbal commitments that the JKAS age limit would be relaxed for this cycle. One aspirant said they were assured several times that the matter would be resolved. He recalled that on Nov 4, a senior official confirmed the proposal would be placed before the cabinet within 2 days, but no written order followed. A significant assurance reportedly came from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who told aspirants that if his advisor had already promised age relaxation, he would support it. “The CM advised us to focus on preparation and assured us the issue would be resolved,” an aspirant said.
GAD Confirms File Still Pending; No Written Order Yet
Despite these assurances, the General Administration Department (GAD) has not issued any formal notification. Aspirants said GAD officials informed them that the file is “still pending” and no final decision has been conveyed. The delay also affected JKPSC’s release of admit cards. Officials held the admit cards for 2 days, expecting a government direction. But with no order issued, the Commission released the admit cards on Monday evening.
Current JKAS Age Criteria and What Aspirants Want Changed
Before reviewing the age criteria, it is important to understand why aspirants are demanding relaxation. Candidates said the recruitment was advertised long ago, and without relaxation, many who have prepared for years will lose a fair chance. They said they travelled multiple times to both cities to request relief. Below is the current JKAS age limit structure:
Aspirants are demanding the upper age limit be increased to 37 for Open Category and 40 for Reserved Categories, similar to past relaxations. Another student delegation is meeting senior officials today, and aspirants hope the cabinet meeting tomorrow at the CM’s residence will bring a favourable decision.
