IISc–IIT Gandhinagar have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 17 November 2025 to strengthen research and academic exchange. IISc–IIT Gandhinagar partnership focuses on supporting students and researchers through shared programmes. The collaboration aims to create long-term academic benefits for both institutions.
IISc–IITGN MoU to Strengthen Research Partnerships
Indian Institute of Science and Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar have formalised their partnership through a new MoU. This collaboration will increase joint academic and research activities across both institutions. It will also promote advanced research opportunities for students and faculty members.
The agreement includes joint research projects in areas of mutual interest. Students and researchers will have access to laboratory facilities, infrastructure, and specialised workshops at both IISc and IITGN. This shared platform will help in fostering innovation-led research across science and engineering disciplines.
Student Exchange and Academic Collaboration Benefits
The MoU enables structured student exchange between the two institutes. This includes opportunities for IITGN students to engage in academic and research programmes at IISc. The exchange programme aims to introduce students to diverse research environments early in their academic journey.
Students participating in workshops or collaborative projects will gain mentoring from experts at both institutes. This joint ecosystem is expected to support interdisciplinary learning and academic growth. The framework also emphasises skill-building that aligns with national research goals.
Direct Pathway from IITGN BTech to IISc Master’s Programme
A key highlight of the partnership is a direct academic pathway for undergraduate students. Under the new agreement, IITGN BTech students completing their third year may join IISc for their Master’s programme after a single selection process. This creates a smooth transition into advanced academic training.
Students completing all course requirements will receive a BTech degree from IITGN and an MTech degree from IISc. This integrated academic route is expected to attract motivated students interested in research-intensive careers. The joint approach also contributes to building a strong talent pipeline for national research.
Leaders from IISc and IITGN Welcome the Partnership
Prof G Rangarajan, Director of IISc, expressed enthusiasm about the new collaboration. He noted that the partnership will enable BTech students to progress directly into MTech and PhD programmes at IISc. He also highlighted that IISc offers more than two dozen MTech specialisations open to graduates from Centrally Funded Technical Institutions.
Prof Rajat Moona, Director of IIT Gandhinagar, shared his personal connection as an IISc alumnus. He stated that the collaboration reflects IITGN’s student-focused philosophy. He added that the partnership will support student welfare and long-term academic success by expanding learning opportunities.
