Allahabad HC division bench stays single-judge order directing CLAT 2026 merit list revision. Revised counselling dates to be announced by CNLU.

CLAT 2026 Merit List Revision Stayed by Allahabad HC Division Bench

The Allahabad High Court has stayed the February 3, 2026 order of a single judge directing the Consortium of National Law Universities (CNLU) to revise the CLAT 2026 merit list for future counselling rounds. The decision was passed by a division bench comprising Justice Saumitra Dayal Singh and Justice Indrajeet Shukla.

Background of the CLAT 2026 Merit List Case

The stay comes after a PIL filed by Avneesh Gupta, a CLAT 2026 candidate, who claimed that his objections to the final answer key 2026 were ignored. The single judge, Justice Vivek Saran, had ordered the consortium to:

  • Correct errors in the CLAT 2026 answer key.
  • Recalculate ranks for all candidates.
  • Revise the merit list for all future counselling rounds.

CNLU appealed, citing that re-ranking thousands of candidates would disrupt the admission cycle, prompting the division bench to issue a stay on the single-judge order.

Current Status and Impact

The stay means that the merit list revision will not be implemented immediately. The CLAT counselling 2026 schedule is now pending, and candidates must monitor consortiumofnlus.ac.in for further updates regarding:

  • Revised counselling dates
  • Future rounds of admission
  • Notifications related to merit list adjustments

Students appearing for CLAT UG 2026 counselling should stay updated with official releases to avoid missing any deadlines.

What Candidates Should Do?

  • Regularly check the CNLU official website for counselling updates.
  • Keep documents ready for upcoming counselling rounds.
  • Stay informed about any notifications regarding answer key corrections or merit list changes.

The stay on merit list revision ensures that the current merit list remains effective until the high court delivers a final decision. Candidates affected by the single-judge order should prepare for counselling as per official instructions once announced.
