CLAT 2027 Registration to Begin in August 2026, Says NLUs

The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has confirmed that CLAT 2027 registrations will begin in August 2026. The national-level law entrance exam is expected to be conducted in December 2026 for admission to five-year LLB and one-year LLM programmes offered by participating NLUs.

CLAT 2027 Registration to Begin in August 2026, Says NLUs

The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has announced that the registration process for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2027 will begin in August 2026. Candidates seeking admission to undergraduate and postgraduate law programmes at National Law Universities will be able to apply online through the official portal. CLAT is a national-level entrance examination conducted annually for admission to five-year LLB and one-year LLM programmes offered by participating NLUs across India.

 

CLAT 2027 Registration Dates and Application Window

The Consortium has indicated that the CLAT application process will start in August 2026, continuing the exam’s regular admission cycle. Based on the expected schedule, the important events are:

  • CLAT 2027 notification release: July 2026
  • Start of CLAT 2027 registration: August 2026
  • Last date to submit application: Likely October or November 2026
  • CLAT 2027 exam date: Expected December 2026

Candidates will need to complete the application process online by creating a candidate login and submitting the required details.

 

CLAT 2027 Application Process

The application form for CLAT 2027 will be available only in online mode through the Consortium’s official website. Before submitting the application form, candidates must complete several steps in the registration process. Key steps involved in the CLAT application process include:

  • Creating a candidate login account
  • Entering personal and communication details
  • Filling educational qualifications
  • Selecting preferred exam centres
  • Uploading required documents and photographs
  • Paying the application fee online

The entrance test is conducted in offline pen-and-paper mode, and scores are used for admission to multiple NLUs across the country.

 

CLAT Exam for NLU Admissions

CLAT plays a major role in admissions to India’s top law universities. The exam is organised by the Consortium of National Law Universities, which coordinates admissions for participating NLUs. The entrance test includes questions from subjects such as:

  • English language
  • Current affairs and general knowledge
  • Legal reasoning
  • Logical reasoning
  • Quantitative techniques

After the exam, candidates are ranked based on their scores and participate in the centralised CLAT counselling process for seat allotment at NLUs.

 

Expected CLAT 2027 Exam Timeline

Although the official schedule is yet to be released, the exam is likely to follow the usual timeline followed in previous years. The CLAT 2027 exam is expected to be conducted on 06 December 2026, with admit cards likely to be released in November 2026.
