CBSE Warns Schools Over Misuse of Board Name by Agra Society

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a strict advisory to all its affiliated schools after the registration of an Agra-based society using the Board’s name without authorisation was cancelled. The action followed an official order by the Registrar of Firms, Societies and Chits, Agra, which revoked the society’s registration for misleading use of the term “CBSE”. The Board clarified that it has no association, affiliation, or endorsement with the derecognised body and directed schools to maintain complete distance from the organisation in all forms.

Registrar Cancels Registration for Unauthorised Use of “CBSE”

As per the Registrar’s order, the society named CBSE Board School Games Welfare Society (CBSE-WSO) had been operating by using the Board’s name without seeking any formal approval. The unauthorised use of the “CBSE” brand was found to be misleading and in violation of official norms, leading to the cancellation of its legal registration. CBSE, in its circular, reiterated that the misuse of its name by external organisations is a serious regulatory violation, and schools must remain alert against such practices.

CBSE Issues Clear Warning to All Affiliated Schools

In its official communication, the Board directed all affiliated schools to avoid engaging with CBSE-WSO in any capacity. Schools have been instructed not to:

  • Support or sponsor any activity linked to the derecognised society
  • Send students to sports events, tournaments, or programmes organised by the group
  • Recognise certificates or claims issued under the name of the society

The Board further stated that all communications, promotions, and claims made by the society must be treated as unauthorised and invalid with immediate effect.

Advisory on External Organisations Using CBSE Branding

CBSE also advised schools to exercise due diligence while dealing with any external organisation claiming linkage with the Board. The advisory underlined that unauthorised use of CBSE branding, logos, or name for conducting events or programmes should be viewed with suspicion. For verification and clarification, schools have been urged to rely only on CBSE’s official communication channels and not on informal or third-party sources. Any suspicious activity or misleading communication must be reported promptly to the Board.

Importance of Brand Protection and Student Safety

Education experts have noted that misuse of a national education board’s name can mislead parents, students, and institutions, and may also impact student safety during unauthorised events. The latest action by CBSE reflects the Board’s continued effort to protect its brand integrity and ensure regulatory compliance across affiliated institutions. With more than thirty thousand affiliated schools across India and abroad, CBSE regularly issues advisories to safeguard institutional credibility and prevent misuse of its identity for commercial or promotional purposes.

What Schools Are Expected to Do Now?

Following the advisory, schools are expected to:

  • Verify all third-party invitations and event promotions
  • Avoid partnerships with unrecognised bodies
  • Share updates with parents and students where required
  • Use only official CBSE platforms for confirmation

The Board has stressed that any violation of the advisory may invite strict action under CBSE affiliation bylaws. CBSE’s latest notice serves as a strong reminder to schools to remain vigilant against unauthorised entities and ensure that students are associated only with recognised, verified, and approved platforms for academic and co-curricular activities.
