Supreme Court Allows Three NEET UG Candidates to Pay Fee by Dec 10

The Supreme Court has granted major relief to three NEET UG 2025 candidates from Tamil Nadu who lost their MBBS seats because they could not complete the fee payment on time. The bench of Justice PS Narasimha and Justice AS Chandurkar has allowed the students to pay their admission fees by December 10 and secure their MBBS seats.

Court Restores Admission Chance for Students

The Apex Court examined the case after the students approached it citing issues beyond their control. One candidate could not pay the fee because the last date fell on a bank holiday, while the other two struggled due to financial difficulties. The bench initially expressed hesitation, noting that granting relief on financial grounds could “open a Pandora’s box.”

However, once the court learned that the deadline fell on a holiday, it accepted the students’ plea and decided to extend relief under special circumstances. The court also clarified that this order will not serve as a precedent for future cases.

Seats to Be Allotted From Vacant Management Quota

The bench directed the Tamil Nadu authorities to allot MBBS seats from the available vacant management quota seatsso that the students are not deprived of admission due to uncontrollable circumstances.

One of the petitioners, Vicksh, informed the bench that the final day for fee payment was a second Saturday, which resulted in banks being closed. Due to this, the student was unable to produce a demand draft or complete online transfer modes such as NEFT or RTGS.

Background of the Case

Among the three students, one had earlier challenged a Madras High Court order. She had secured 251 marks in NEET UG 2025 and was allotted an MBBS seat under the minority quota at Madha Medical College in round 3 counselling held from October 30 to November 1, 2025.

Her reporting deadline was November 8, 2025, but she could arrange the INR 15 lakh fee only on that day. Since November 8 was a second Saturday, she could not make the payment.

A single judge had initially granted her relief. Later, a Division Bench set aside that order, stating that the prospectus schedule must be followed strictly, as many students might otherwise seek similar exemptions.

Final Supreme Court Direction

Considering the unique circumstances, the Supreme Court has now allowed all three candidates to complete the payment on or before Wednesday (December 10, 2025). This decision restores their opportunity to join MBBS courses for the 2025–26 academic year.
