The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is planning to conduct two board examinations for Class 10 with the objective of reducing exam-related stress among students. As per the proposal, the second board exam will be only for improvement purposes and will not be mandatory for all candidates.The initiative is designed to provide students with flexibility and help ease the pressure associated with a single high-stakes examination.
Purpose Behind CBSE Two Board Exams Policy
CBSE’s proposed assessment reform focuses on prioritising student well-being and learning outcomes. By offering an additional opportunity, the board aims to shift the emphasis away from one-time performance and reduce anxiety among Class 10 students.The first board exam will serve as the primary assessment, while the second exam will allow students to improve scores in selected subjects if required.
Second Board Exam Only for Improvement
According to the proposed framework, the second Class 10 board exam will be optional. Only students who wish to improve their marks will be eligible to appear in the second examination.CBSE has indicated that marks obtained in the improvement exam will be considered only if they are higher than the first attempt, ensuring that students do not face any academic disadvantage.
