The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has issued an official clarification after two candidates with the same name claimed Rank 301 in the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2025 results. The controversy surfaced shortly after the final results were declared on 06 March 2026. Following media reports and social media discussions, the commission confirmed the identity of the candidate who actually secured the rank, bringing clarity to the issue.

 

How the UPSC Rank 301 Controversy Began?

The confusion began when two women named Akanksha Singh separately claimed that they had secured Rank 301 in the highly competitive examination. Both candidates appeared before media outlets and presented documents supporting their claims. One candidate belongs to Ara in Bihar, while the other is from Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh. Each asserted that the roll number associated with Rank 301 belonged to them. The situation quickly attracted public attention as both candidates shared admit cards and other details in an attempt to verify their claims. The incident also sparked widespread discussion among aspirants and on social media platforms.

 

UPSC Official Clarification on Rank 301

After reviewing the matter, the authorities issued a statement clarifying the identity of the candidate who officially secured Rank 301. According to the official records released by the government:

  • Candidate Name: Akanksha Singh
  • Roll Number: 0856794
  • Parents: Ranjit Singh and Neelam Singh
  • Residence: Abhaipur village, Ghazipur district, Uttar Pradesh

These details were confirmed through official UPSC records and government communication, resolving the confusion surrounding the rank

 

Social Media Claims and Identity Dispute

Before the clarification, the candidate from Ghazipur had posted on social media alleging that someone was misusing her identity and rank. She also shared documents to support her claim. Meanwhile, the candidate from Ara had told reporters that she had cleared the exam in her second attempt and had prepared extensively for the examination. The conflicting claims led to speculation about possible errors or impersonation.

 

Civil Services Examination Result Announcement

The Civil Services Examination 2025 results were officially announced on 06 March 2026. The exam is one of India’s most competitive recruitment processes and is conducted annually to select candidates for services such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and Indian Foreign Service (IFS). Following the clarification issued by the authorities, the confusion over Rank 301 has now been resolved, confirming that the candidate from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, is the rightful holder of the rank.
