UPSC Prelims 2026 Tomorrow: Check Exam Day Guidelines and Banned Items as the Union Public Service Commission is set to conduct the Civil Services Preliminary Examination on May 24, 2026, across examination centres nationwide. Lakhs of aspirants appearing for the IAS recruitment examination have been instructed to carefully follow the examination-day rules mentioned in the admit card and official instructions. The UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination consists of two objective-type papers conducted on the same day. Candidates are required to appear for both the General Studies Paper I and the CSAT Paper II to remain eligible for evaluation and qualification to the mains stage.

 

UPSC Prelims 2026: Exam Timing and Reporting Schedule

The UPSC preliminary examination will be conducted in two separate shifts on Sunday. Candidates must report well before the gate closing time because late entry will not be permitted under any circumstances. The official examination schedule is given below:

Candidates are advised to reach the examination centre at least 45–60 minutes before the gate closing time to complete frisking and verification procedures smoothly.

 

UPSC Prelims 2026: Admit Card and Mandatory Documents

Candidates appearing for the examination must carry all mandatory documents to avoid denial of entry at the examination venue. The required documents include:

  • Printed UPSC Prelims Admit Card 2026
  • Original government-issued photo ID
  • Aadhaar Card / PAN Card / Voter ID / Passport / Driving Licence
  • Two passport-size photographs, if the admit card image is unclear

Candidates are advised to carry at least two printed copies of the admit card for safety purposes. The details on the ID proof must match the information mentioned on the admit card.

 

UPSC Prelims 2026: Items Allowed Inside the Exam Hall

UPSC has permitted only limited essential items inside the examination hall. Candidates should avoid carrying unnecessary materials or valuables. The permitted items include:

  • Printed admit card
  • Valid original photo ID proof
  • Black ballpoint pens
  • Transparent water bottle
  • Simple analog watch
  • Passport-size photographs

Candidates with genuine medical conditions may also carry basic permitted medical essentials after verification at the examination centre.

 

UPSC Prelims 2026: Prohibited Items List

The commission has issued strict instructions regarding prohibited items. Candidates found carrying banned objects may face immediate disqualification and disciplinary action. The following items are strictly prohibited:

  • Mobile phones
  • Smart watches
  • Bluetooth devices
  • Earphones or earbuds
  • Calculators
  • Electronic gadgets
  • Books and notes
  • Printed study materials
  • Bags and handbags
  • Digital watches

UPSC guidelines also clarify that mobile phones are prohibited even if switched off. Most examination centres may not provide storage facilities for electronic items.

 

UPSC Prelims 2026: Dress Code and Security Guidelines

Although UPSC has not issued an official dress code, candidates have been advised to wear simple and comfortable clothes suitable for summer weather conditions. The recommended guidelines include:

  • Light-coloured comfortable clothing
  • Simple footwear without heavy soles
  • Minimal accessories and jewellery
  • Avoidance of metallic objects

Female candidates have been advised to avoid heavy jewellery and heels, while male candidates should avoid clothing with large pockets or metallic accessories to reduce delays during frisking procedures.

 

UPSC Prelims 2026: Exam Pattern and Paper Structure

The Civil Services Preliminary Examination consists of two papers conducted in an objective format. The examination structure is given below:

Paper II (CSAT) is qualifying in nature, but candidates must secure the minimum qualifying marks to have their GS Paper I evaluated for merit preparation.
