UPSC has opened the Detailed Application Form (DAF) window for Civil Services (Main) Examination 2026, open from June 19 to June 29, 2026 at 18:00 Hrs IST. All 13,343 candidates who cleared the Prelims (May 24, 2026) must submit the DAF at upsconline.nic.in — including service preferences, cadre choices, and optional subject. Without DAF submission, the e-Admit Card for Mains (beginning August 21, 2026) will not be issued.
Cleared the UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026? There is one mandatory step standing between you and the Mains — and the deadline is June 29, 2026 at 6:00 PM IST. UPSC has opened the Detailed Application Form (DAF) window at upsconline.nic.in, and every one of the 13,343 qualified candidates must submit it. Without a valid DAF submission, UPSC will not issue your Mains e-Admit Card — effectively ending your 2026 Civil Services attempt.

How to Submit the UPSC CSE Mains 2026 DAF — Step by Step
- Visit upsconline.nic.in and click on 'Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2026 – Detailed Application Form (DAF)'.
- Log in using your Registration ID and Date of Birth.
- Fill in your personal details, educational qualifications, and category (SC/ST/OBC/EWS/General).
- Carefully fill your service preferences (IAS, IPS, IFS, IRS, etc.) in your preferred order. This ranking directly determines which service you are allocated after the Personality Test — take your time here.
- Select your cadre preference for IAS/IPS/IFS and your preferred optional subject for the Mains written exam.
- Choose your preferred medium of examination and examination centre for Mains.
- Pay ₹200 via online payment if applicable, then submit the form and download your confirmation before June 29 at 18:00 Hrs.
Do not rush through service preferences: Once submitted, your service preference order cannot be changed. Many aspirants regret ranking services without fully researching the role, posting patterns, and career trajectory of each. Speak to a mentor or senior IAS/IPS officer before finalising.
Why the DAF Is Not Just a Formality?
The DAF is the document UPSC uses to generate your Mains e-Admit Card, validate your category claims, verify your eligibility for specific services, and ultimately structure merit-based allocation. Candidates who submit incorrect service preferences, category details, or optional subjects often face issues at the interview stage or during allocation. Fill it carefully — not quickly. What is the last date to submit the UPSC CSE Mains 2026 DAF?
June 29, 2026 at 18:00 Hrs (6:00 PM IST) at upsconline.nic.in. There is no provision for late submission under any circumstances.
What happens if I do not submit the DAF by June 29?
UPSC will not issue an e-Admit Card for the Civil Services Main Examination 2026. You will be unable to appear for Mains, and your entire 2026 attempt — including the Prelims qualification — becomes void. There is no late submission or extension.
Can I edit my service preferences after submitting the DAF?
No. Once the DAF is submitted and confirmed, your service and cadre preferences are locked. They cannot be changed at any later stage. This is the single most consequential decision in the DAF — research thoroughly before submitting.
Is the ₹200 DAF fee mandatory for all candidates?
No. SC/ST candidates, PwBD candidates, and female candidates are exempt from the ₹200 fee. All other eligible candidates must pay online during DAF submission.
When is the UPSC Civil Services Main Examination 2026?
The Mains is tentatively scheduled to begin on August 21, 2026. The e-Admit Card will only be generated for candidates who successfully submit the DAF within the June 29 deadline.
