The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination 2027 notification for recruitment to various Geologist, Chemist, Geophysicist and related posts. The examination includes Assistant Chemist and Assistant Geologist posts under the Geological Survey of India (GSI), along with Assistant Chemist and other posts under the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB).
Candidates who meet the required educational and age criteria can submit the UPSC Geo-Scientist 2027 application online. The last date to apply is September 22, 2026, up to 6 PM.
UPSC Assistant Chemist Recruitment 2027 Key Details

The UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Examination has three stages: Preliminary Examination, Main Examination and Personality Test/Interview. The Preliminary Examination is scheduled for January 10, 2027, while the Main Examination will be held on June 19 and 20, 2027.
UPSC Geo Scientist Vacancy 2027
UPSC has announced tentative vacancies across posts in the Geological Survey of India and Central Ground Water Board. The vacancy count is subject to change as per the Commission's notification.
The GSI has six Assistant Chemist vacancies, while the CGWB has one Assistant Chemist vacancy. The notification also includes 29 Geologist and 34 Assistant Geologist vacancies under GSI.
UPSC Assistant Chemist Eligibility 2027
For Assistant Chemist Group B posts, candidates must have a relevant master's degree from a recognised university or institute.
Eligible qualifications include:
- M.Sc. in Chemistry
- Integrated M.Sc. in Chemistry
- M.Sc. in Applied Chemistry
- M.Sc. in Analytical Chemistry
- M.Sc. in Physical Chemistry
- M.Sc. in Inorganic Chemistry
- M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry
- M.Sc. in Hydro-Chemistry
- M.Sc. in Industrial Chemistry
For the Geologist Group A post, candidates need a relevant master's degree in Geology, Applied Geology, Geological Science, Geo-Exploration, Mineral Exploration, Engineering Geology, Earth Science and other specified disciplines.
UPSC Geo Scientist Age Limit 2027
Candidates must be between 21 and 32 years of age as on January 1, 2027. They should have been born between January 2, 1995, and January 1, 2006.
Age relaxation is available for eligible reserved and other categories as per government rules. For example, SC and ST candidates can receive up to five years of relaxation, while eligible OBC candidates can receive up to three years.

Candidates applying for the UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Examination 2027 need to pay an examination fee of INR 200.

UPSC Geo Scientist Exam Pattern 2027
The selection process consists of three stages:
- Stage 1: Combined Geo-Scientist Preliminary Examination

- Stage 3: Personality Test/Interview
The Preliminary Examination has two objective-type papers. Candidates who qualify for Stage 1 are allowed to appear for the Main Examination, which consists of three descriptive papers. The marks obtained in the written stages are considered for final merit as prescribed in the examination scheme.
