CBSE has detailed the Class 10 Hindi marking scheme 2026 for Course A and Course B, covering theory paper structure, writing skills evaluation and internal assessment norms.

Understanding the CBSE Class 10 Hindi Marking Scheme 2026

The CBSE Class 10 Hindi marking scheme 2026, released by the Central Board of Secondary Education, defines a uniform evaluation framework for both Hindi Course A and Hindi Course B. The subject carries a total of 100 marks, divided into 80 marks for the theory examination and 20 marks for internal assessment. The scheme prioritises language proficiency, comprehension ability, creative expression and grammatical accuracy.

The Hindi theory paper tests reading comprehension, writing skills and literature understanding

The Hindi theory examination is structured to assess students’ ability to read unseen passages, interpret literary texts and express ideas clearly in written form. Both Course A and Course B follow similar evaluation principles, though the difficulty level and prescribed texts differ. Marks are awarded based on content relevance, coherence, language accuracy and adherence to word limits.

Reading comprehension section rewards clarity of understanding and precise answers

The unseen passage section evaluates students’ reading skills, vocabulary usage and inferential ability. The marking scheme allows full marks for answers that correctly reflect the meaning of the passage, even if wording differs from standard solutions. Grammatical errors are overlooked unless they alter the meaning of the response.

Writing skills section carries significant weightage in the overall Hindi score

Letter writing, analytical paragraphs, formal or informal compositions and creative writing tasks form a crucial part of the Hindi paper. The marking scheme divides marks between content, format and language accuracy.Students are credited for logical sequencing of ideas, appropriate tone and effective conclusion rather than decorative language.

Literature section focuses on textual understanding rather than memorisation

Questions from prose, poetry and supplementary readers are designed to test comprehension, interpretation and personal response. Direct quotes are not mandatory, but references to the text strengthen answers.Step-wise marking ensures students receive partial credit for correct ideas even if explanations are brief.

Internal assessment evaluates listening, speaking and project-based learning

The 20-mark internal assessment includes listening and speaking activities, periodic tests, portfolio work and subject enrichment tasks. Schools assess students on consistency, participation and language application in real-life contexts. The board mandates transparent assessment and timely submission of internal marks.

Presentation and handwriting influence readability but not marks directly

According to the marking guidelines, neat handwriting and structured presentation improve answer clarity but do not carry separate marks. Examiners focus on content accuracy, relevance and grammatical correctness. Excessive overwriting or irrelevant content may lead to loss of marks.

Balanced preparation across sections improves overall Hindi performance

Students are advised to practise all sections equally, as neglecting writing or literature can significantly affect scores. Regular reading, timed writing practice and revision of grammar rules align well with the marking scheme. Understanding examiner expectations helps students maximise marks efficiently.
