NTA to Introduce Facial Recognition for NEET, JEE Main 2026 Exams

NEET and JEE Main 2026 will introduce a new identity verification system using facial recognition and live photo capture, as planned by the National Testing Agency. The move aims to strengthen exam security and prevent cases of impersonation at both registration and examination stages. The changes will apply to major entrance exams conducted from 2026 onwards. The new system will modify how candidates submit applications and how identity checks are carried out at test centres.

Live Photo Capture During NEET and JEE Main 2026 Application Process

For NEET UG 2026 and JEE Main 2026, candidates will be required to capture a live photograph while filling out the application form. Uploaded static photographs alone will no longer be considered sufficient for identity verification. The live image will be captured using a webcam or mobile camera and will be automatically linked to the candidate’s application data. This step is intended to ensure that the person registering for the exam matches the individual appearing for it.

Facial Recognition Verification at NEET and JEE Main 2026 Exam Centres

Facial recognition will also be implemented at examination centres as an additional layer of security. The facial data recorded during registration will be matched again before candidates are permitted to enter the exam hall. This verification will work alongside existing checks such as admit cards and government-issued identity documents, making the entry process more secure and streamlined.

JEE Main 2026 Expected to Be First Exam With New Verification System

The updated verification process is expected to be rolled out first with JEE Main 2026, beginning with the January session. Following this, NEET UG 2026 and other examinations conducted by the National Testing Agency are likely to adopt the same system. Similar technology has already been tested on a limited scale in previous examinations, and the expanded rollout is aimed at standardising identity checks across major national-level tests.
