DU VC Prof Yogesh Singh has been given additional charge as the Chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education. The University of Delhi Vice Chancellor will oversee the functioning of the national technical education regulator until further orders or till a new Chairman is appointed.
The appointment comes after the completion of the tenure of the outgoing AICTE Chairman. The Ministry of Education has issued formal orders regarding the interim arrangement.
Prof Yogesh Singh Appointed as AICTE Chairman on Interim Basis
According to an official statement issued by the University of Delhi Vice Chancellor’s office, Prof Yogesh Singh has assumed additional responsibility as AICTE Chairman. This arrangement has been made after Prof T G Sitharam was relieved of his duties on 20 December 2025, following the completion of his term.
A letter issued by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, stated that Prof Yogesh Singh’s appointment will remain valid until the appointment of a regular AICTE Chairman or until further orders, whichever is earlier. During this period, he will take charge of policy decisions and regulatory oversight related to technical education in the country.
About Prof Yogesh Singh’s Academic and Administrative Background
Prof Yogesh Singh has been serving as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Delhi since October 2021. He is widely regarded as an experienced academician with strong administrative credentials. Before taking charge at Delhi University, he held several key leadership roles in higher education institutions across India.
He has previously served as the Chairperson of the National Council for Teacher Education, contributing to policy formulation and reforms in teacher education. In August 2023, he was also given additional charge as the Director of the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA).
Previous Leadership Roles Held by Prof Yogesh Singh
Prof Yogesh Singh has an extensive administrative career spanning more than a decade. He served as the Vice Chancellor of Delhi Technological University from 2015 to 2021, where he played a key role in academic restructuring and institutional development.
Earlier, he worked as the Director of Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology, Delhi, from 2014 to 2017. Prior to that, he served as the Vice Chancellor of Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda (Gujarat), from 2011 to 2014.
These roles have given him wide exposure to managing large public universities and technical institutions.
Educational Qualifications and Academic Contributions
Prof Yogesh Singh holds a PhD in Computer Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra. His academic work is primarily focused on software engineering, where he has made notable contributions through teaching, research, and innovation.
He is known for promoting quality education, research excellence, and institutional governance. His appointment as AICTE Chairman on additional charge is expected to ensure continuity in regulatory functions until a permanent appointment is made. The Ministry of Education has not yet announced a timeline for the appointment of a regular AICTE Chairman.
