The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has released detailed guidance for KCET 2026 candidates on modifying their college and course preferences after the mock seat allotment. Eligible candidates can edit, add, delete or reorder options before the final allotment process begins.
KCET 2026 option editing is currently underway after the release of the mock seat allotment results by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA). Candidates participating in the counselling process can now review their allotted seats and make necessary changes to their college and course preferences before the final seat allotment. To assist applicants, KEA has also published an explanatory video demonstrating the complete option modification process. The guidance is intended to help candidates make informed decisions based on their mock allotment, available vacancies and updated reservation details. Authorities have advised students to carefully review all choices before the option editing window closes, as the final allotment will be prepared using the last saved preferences.
KCET 2026 Option Editing: What Changes Can Candidates Make?
Candidates who are not satisfied with their mock allotment can use this opportunity to improve their preference list. KEA has allowed multiple modifications during the option editing period to help students maximise their chances of securing a preferred college or branch. During the option editing window, candidates can:
- Reorder existing college and branch preferences based on their priorities.
- Move preferred colleges or courses higher in the option list.
- Add new colleges or branches that were not selected earlier.
- Delete unwanted options from the submitted preference list.
- Submit a fresh option entry by paying INR 750 if they did not participate during the initial option entry period.
- Update reservation details by uploading the Tahsildar-issued RD Number if a new SC, ST or other reservation certificate has been obtained.
- Include Yoga and Naturopathy courses, which have now been added after the release of the updated seat matrix.
Candidates who are satisfied with the seat allotted during the mock round and have already secured their preferred choice are not required to make any changes.
KCET 2026 Mock Allotment: Why Option Editing Is Important
The mock allotment is designed to give candidates an opportunity to evaluate their current chances of admission before the final seat allocation. It also helps students understand how their present option order affects allotment outcomes. Candidates are encouraged to analyse their mock allotment carefully and revise their preferences wherever necessary. Those aiming for better-ranked institutions or specific branches should strategically reorder their options while considering previous years' closing ranks and the current seat availability. KEA has clarified that the final seat allotment will be prepared strictly on the basis of:
- KCET 2026 rank
- Category and reservation eligibility
- Final saved option preferences
- Availability of seats
- Applicable counselling rules
KCET 2026 Seat Vacancy Details After Mock Allotment
Following the release of the mock allotment, KEA reported that a significant number of seats remain vacant across various professional programmes. These vacancies provide additional opportunities for candidates to revise their preference lists strategically. The current vacancy figures include:
KCET 2026 Option Editing Deadline and Important Instructions
KEA has confirmed that the option editing portal will remain available until July 9, 2026. Candidates can access the portal at any time during the editing period, as the authority has stated that its servers are functioning normally. The examination authority has also clarified that no extension of the option editing deadline is currently planned. Therefore, candidates should complete all modifications well before the closing date and ensure that their final preference list accurately reflects their admission priorities. After saving the revised options, candidates are advised to download or print a copy of the final submitted preference list for future reference. The KCET 2026 final seat allotment will be prepared solely on the basis of the last successfully saved choices submitted before the deadline.
