Freeze, Float and Slide: Understanding the Available Options
Candidates who receive a seat during JoSAA counselling must choose one of the available willingness options based on their admission preferences. The available options are explained below.
Freeze
Candidates selecting the Freeze option accept the allotted seat and will not participate in any further rounds of counselling.
Float
The Float option allows candidates to retain the currently allotted seat while remaining eligible for higher-preference institutes in subsequent rounds.
Slide
Candidates choosing Slide accept the allotted institute but wish to be considered for a better branch within the same institution during later counselling rounds. Selecting the appropriate option is important because it determines participation in future seat allocation rounds.
JoSAA Counselling 2026: Admission Process Continues
The JoSAA counselling process facilitates admissions to undergraduate engineering programmes offered by premier technical institutions across India. Seat allocation is carried out based on candidates' JEE Main or JEE Advanced ranks, category, preferences filled during choice locking and seat availability. Candidates who have not secured a desired branch or institute in Round 3 can continue participating in the remaining counselling rounds by completing the required reporting formalities and selecting the appropriate willingness option.
With the JoSAA 2026 Round 3 Seat Allotment now available, candidates should carefully review their allotment, complete online reporting before July 08, 2026, and regularly monitor the official website for the release of the Round 3 opening and closing ranks, which will provide valuable insights for subsequent counselling rounds and admission decisions.
