IIT Madras Launches Online BS in Aeronautics & Space Tech, No JEE Required

The announcement was made on February 9, 2026 during a launch event held on the IIT Madras campus, attended by industry representatives from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and civil aviation sectors. The online BS programme is designed to address skill gaps in rapidly growing fields such as aeronautics, space systems, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and civil aviation. It aims to provide learners with industry-relevant knowledge and practical skills to succeed in aerospace and allied sectors.

Key Features of the BS Aeronautics & Space Technology Programme

The BS course emphasises skill-based training in areas critical to aerospace engineering and technology. Key elements of the programme include:

• Recorded lectures, live interactive sessions, and online discussion forums
• Flexible pacing with prescribed academic milestones
• Project work at diploma and BS levels
• Capstone projects involving aircraft or spacecraft design
• Internship opportunities and practical skill development
• Assessments through Sunday centre-based and online proctored tests
• Placement and internship support via the Centre for Outreach and Digital Education (CODE) at IIT Madras

No JEE Main or Advanced Requirement

Uniquely, the programme does not require candidates to qualify JEE Main or Advanced for admission. It is open to:
