The CBSE Class 10 Science marking scheme 2026, released by the Central Board of Secondary Education, provides a structured framework for assessing students in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The total marks for Science are 100, out of which 80 marks are allotted to the theory examination and 20 marks to internal assessment. The marking scheme aims to ensure uniformity, fairness and transparency in evaluation across all examination centres.

 

The theory question paper is designed to test conceptual clarity and application

The Science theory paper carries 80 marks and includes a mix of multiple-choice, short-answer and long-answer questions. Questions are framed to test students’ understanding of scientific concepts rather than rote memorisation. Case-based and assertion–reason questions have been introduced to evaluate analytical thinking and real-life application of scientific principles.

 

Physics, Chemistry and Biology receive balanced representation in marks distribution

The Science paper is divided across three core disciplines — Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Each unit contributes proportionately to the overall paper, ensuring comprehensive syllabus coverage.
