The GATE 2026 counselling process is set to begin with COAP 2026 registrations from 27 March 2026. Coordinated by IIT Roorkee, the portal streamlines MTech admissions across IITs for candidates with qualifying GATE 2024/2025/2026 scores. The scorecard download also opens on 27 March 2026, free until 31 May 2026, after which a fee of ₹500 applies.
Key Steps to Register on COAP 2026
Candidates must follow these steps for smooth registration and counselling:
- Download GATE 2026 scorecard: Visit GATE official website and log in using Enrollment ID/Password.
- Register on COAP portal: Free registration; no documents required initially.
- Generate COAP ID: Mandatory for IIT MTech applications and PSU recruitment.
- Apply at IITs: After COAP registration, visit respective IIT websites to complete MTech admission applications.
COAP Counselling Rounds
The COAP 2026 counselling includes 5 main and 5 optional rounds. Candidates must perform one of the following actions each round:
- Accept and Freeze – Confirm seat and freeze choice
- Retain and Wait – Keep current choice but wait for higher preference
- Reject and Wait – Reject current offer but stay for next rounds
Round 1 counselling will begin on 11 May 2026.
