CBSE Class 10 Board Exams 2026 Updates: Date Sheet, Papers & Guidelines

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) commenced the Class 10 Board Exams 2026 on 17 February 2026, with lakhs of students appearing for papers in subjects like Mathematics, Home Science, Languages and more. The 2026 board exams follow the newly introduced format and strict exam-day guidelines

CBSE Exam Schedule and Timings

CBSE Class 10 exams for the 2025–26 sessions are being held from 17 February to 11 March 2026 in offline pen-and-paper mode. Most papers follow a single shift from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM, with strict entry rules that allow students inside the exam hall only until 10:00 AM. Students are advised to reach exam centres well before the reporting time to avoid last-minute hassles. Carrying a valid admit card and appropriate identification is mandatory on all days.

CBSE Class 10th Board Exam: Paper Difficulty & Student Feedback

Initial reactions from students and educators indicate varied experiences:

  • The Mathematics paper on the first day posed challenges for many candidates due to its length and time-intensive questions, leading some to call it tough.
  • Other reports from exam centres described some papers as balanced and syllabus-linked, helping students maintain confidence.
  • Experts and question paper reviewers are actively providing real-time analysis and sample questions to aid preparation for upcoming exams.

CBSE Guidelines and Key Instructions for Students

CBSE has issued detailed exam-day instructions to ensure smooth conduct of the Class 10 exams:

  • Entry is strictly closed at 10:00 AM; no candidate will be permitted after this time.
  • Students must bring their CBSE admit card, school identity proofs, and required stationery. Electronic gadgets, including mobile phones, are banned inside the exam hall.
  • CBSE also advises students and parents to ignore unverified social media reports and follow only official updates from the board’s website and authorised portals.

CBSE Two-Phase Exam System and Second Chance Option

For the first time under the updated board exam framework, CBSE is allowing students the option of a second board exam later in the year as a chance to improve scores. However, appearing in the first exam session remains mandatory for all students. Skipping the first session may restrict eligibility for the second exam opportunity. This dual-exam policy aligns with the board’s recent efforts to reduce exam pressure and provide additional flexibility to students preparing for critical subjects like Mathematics, Science and Social Science.

What’s Next in CBSE Class 10 Exams?

Students preparing for upcoming papers, such as English Language and Literature scheduled on 21 February 2026, are recommended to focus on comprehension and structured writing skills. Experienced educators suggest strategic revision and practice using sample question papers to improve performance. CBSE will continue to share live updates on paper review, answer keys and exam instructions throughout the board exam period on official portals and news platforms.
