BITS Pilani Launches Social Conduct Course for UG Students

BITS Pilani introduces Social Conduct course to build emotional intelligence and responsible citizenship among students. The initiative has been rolled out in the current academic year 2026. It is mandatory for all first-year undergraduate students across campuses.

BITS Pilani Social Conduct Course 2026 for First-Year UG Students

The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani has launched this course across its campuses in Pilani, Goa, Hyderabad, and Dubai. The course is designed to address the social and emotional challenges students face when entering university life.

It aims to strengthen emotional intelligence, promote ethical behaviour, and encourage responsible citizenship in higher education. The curriculum integrates these elements into structured academic learning.

Social Conduct Course Curriculum Focus on Emotional Intelligence and Ethics

The course includes multiple key areas that students often encounter for the first time in a university setting. It provides a comprehensive understanding of social behaviour and interpersonal relationships. Key focus areas of the course include:

  • Emotional intelligence and self-awareness
  • Relationships and consent
  • Gender sensitivity and inclusion
  • Personal safety and well-being

This approach ensures students develop both personal and social competencies.

BITS Pilani UG Curriculum 2026 Includes Credit-Based Learning Module

Unlike short-term workshops, the Social Conduct course is a credit-bearing programme integrated into the formal curriculum. It follows a structured learning model to ensure consistent engagement. The course is delivered in an asynchronous online format, allowing flexibility for students. It uses modern learning methods such as:

  • Interactive activities
  • Scenario-based learning
  • Reflection exercises
  • Periodic assessments

These methods help students understand and respond to real-life situations effectively.

BITS Pilani Initiative for Student Wellbeing and Responsible Citizenship

The initiative reflects a broader focus on student wellbeing and holistic development. By embedding social and emotional learning into academics, the institute aims to prepare students for responsible participation in society. The course is expected to set a benchmark in integrating ethics and life skills education within higher education frameworks in India.
