Students and activists protested outside Ambedkar University Delhi to mark one year since four students were expelled after a campus protest. The demonstration highlighted concerns over disciplinary action taken by the university administration. The matter is currently under consideration before the Delhi High Court.

Ambedkar University Students Protest Over Expulsion Row

Students of Dr B.R. Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD) staged a protest outside the university’s Kashmere Gate campus to mark the completion of one year since the expulsion of four students involved in a campus dispute. The demonstration was organised with the participation of members of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI). The protest highlighted demands for reconsideration of the disciplinary action taken by the university administration and called for greater transparency in the inquiry related to the incident.

Background of the Ambedkar University Expulsion Controversy

The controversy dates back to March 2025, when three students affiliated with SFI were initially suspended after raising concerns about an alleged cyber-bullying incident at the university’s Karampura campus. Following the suspensions, student groups organised demonstrations and an indefinite hunger strike at the Kashmere Gate campus. During subsequent protests in April 2025, the university administration alleged that protesters assaulted the vice-chancellor and registrar, which led to further disciplinary action against several students. The four students who were eventually expelled were originally part of the group that had been suspended during the protests.

Students’ Claims Regarding the Inquiry Process

During the anniversary protest, some of the expelled students and activists argued that the disciplinary inquiry lacked transparency. They alleged that the initial suspensions had been temporarily stayed by a court order while the investigation was expected to be completed within a limited timeframe. One expelled student stated that despite the court direction, expulsion notices were later issued in June 2025, while some other students were allowed to graduate but were barred from entering the campus. Student organisations also claimed that individuals accused in the alleged bullying case were permitted to continue attending the campus while those who raised the issue faced disciplinary penalties.

University Response and Legal Proceedings

Officials from Ambedkar University have stated that the institution followed established disciplinary procedures while addressing the matter. The university also indicated that it would refrain from making detailed comments because the case is currently sub judice before the Delhi High Court. The administration emphasised that it remains committed to fairness and transparency and will cooperate with the ongoing judicial process.
