93,000 Scholarship Applications Pending Verification in Maharashtra

93,000 Scholarship Applications Pending Verification in Maharashtra as the state government informed the legislative council about a large number of pending applications from students seeking financial support for higher education. Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil stated in a written reply that verification delays are mainly caused by incomplete documentation or errors in submissions by applicants.

Maharashtra Scholarship Verification Delays Explained

According to the state government, scholarship applications often remain pending because students do not complete the required documentation process. In many cases, applicants either upload incorrect documents on the online portal or fail to submit the necessary hard copies of their application forms to their respective colleges. These issues slow down the verification process, preventing applications from moving forward for approval.

Concerns Raised in Maharashtra Legislative Council

The issue was raised in the legislative council by Shiv Sena MLC Manisha Kayande along with other legislators. They expressed concern about the growing number of students who are unable to access scholarship benefits due to delays. Lawmakers highlighted that scholarship schemes play an important role in supporting students from economically weaker backgrounds who rely on financial assistance to continue higher education.

Scholarship Delays Affecting Students Over the Years

Data presented in the council also indicated that a significant number of students have faced similar issues in recent years. According to the figures shared during the discussion, around 1.42 lakh students were deprived of scholarships over the past five years until December 2025. Legislators warned that delays in scholarship disbursement may create financial pressure on students, which could lead to dropouts from higher education programmes.

Government Response on Scholarship Processing

The Maharashtra government stated that efforts are being made to improve the verification process and reduce delays. Authorities have advised students to carefully upload the required documents and complete the application process correctly.

Ensuring proper submission of documents and verification by colleges is expected to help speed up the approval of pending scholarship applications and ensure that eligible students receive financial assistance on time.
