Uttarakhand MBBS Admissions Cancelled Over Fake Certificates

The Medical Education Department has cancelled the MBBS admissions of four female students after certificates submitted under the Freedom Fighter Dependent Quota were found to be fake during the NEET-UG counselling process. FIRs have also been registered in connection with the alleged use of forged documents.

The action came after authorities examined five suspicious certificates submitted for admission through the reserved quota. District officials verified the documents and found them invalid. The department has now decided to strengthen physical verification of certificates used for Uttarakhand medical admissions.

Uttarakhand MBBS Admissions Cancelled After Certificate Verification

The five suspicious certificates came to light during the ongoing NEET counselling process in Uttarakhand. The documents were sent to the respective district authorities for verification after doubts were raised about their authenticity.

According to the Medical Education Department, all five certificates were subsequently found to be fake and cancelled. Four MBBS admissions secured using these certificates were also annulled.

The admissions were cancelled before the academic session had started. This meant the four students had not yet begun attending MBBS classes when the action was taken, according to the Medical Education Department.

FIRs Registered Over Alleged Fake MBBS Certificates

Police have registered FIRs against the students and family members in connection with the alleged use of forged certificates. Reports said cases were registered at Clement Town and Raipur police stations in Dehradun.

The cases have been registered under Sections 318(4), 338 and 340 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), according to the Medical Education Department's account reported by ANI.

Earlier reports said a committee formed to verify the certificates found the documents suspicious, while some addresses mentioned in the applications could not be verified.

Five Certificates Found Suspicious During NEET Counselling

The issue surfaced while documents submitted for the Freedom Fighter Dependent Quota were being checked during NEET-UG counselling.

The verification process found problems with all five certificates referred to the district administrations. The concerned authorities subsequently cancelled the certificates, following which the MBBS admissions obtained using them were also cancelled.

The investigation is also looking at how the documents were submitted and processed during the online counselling process. Since the Uttarakhand NEET counselling process is conducted online, application and document records are available for further examination.

Uttarakhand Medical Admissions Verification Process to Change

The Medical Education Department has decided to tighten document verification following the incident. Certificates submitted to claim benefits under Uttarakhand NEET counselling will be physically sent to the authorities that issued them for verification.

The proposed process will apply to certificates submitted under different categories, including domicile-related claims and other benefits available during medical admissions. The move is intended to verify documents before admission benefits are finally confirmed.

Investigation Into Uttarakhand NEET Counselling Documents

The police investigation is expected to examine the digital records connected with the applications. Reports indicate that details such as mobile numbers, email addresses, document uploads and other available application records may help establish how the certificates were submitted and processed.

A separate committee headed by the Dehradun Chief Development Officer has also been formed to examine allegations surrounding the certificates. Officials have indicated that further action will depend on the findings of the investigation.
