Anuj Agnihotri has secured All India Rank (AIR) 1 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2025, emerging as the top performer in one of India’s most competitive recruitment examinations. The Union Public Service Commission announced the final results on Friday, recommending 958 candidates for appointment to various civil services.
Agnihotri belongs to Rawatbhata near Kota in Rajasthan and completed his MBBS from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Jodhpur before starting his civil services preparation.
Anuj Agnihotri UPSC AIR 1: Education and Background
Anuj Agnihotri spent most of his early schooling years in Rawatbhata, Rajasthan. After completing school, he moved to Jodhpur to pursue higher education in medicine.
He enrolled in the MBBS programme at AIIMS Jodhpur and later completed his compulsory medical internship in 2023. Following the completion of his medical training, he decided to prepare for the UPSC Civil Services Examination.
Agnihotri described the civil services as a career that offers opportunities to work in diverse sectors of governance. While acknowledging that medicine is a fulfilling profession, he expressed interest in roles that allow broader involvement in administration and public service.
Interests and Activities Beyond Academics
Apart from his academic achievements, Agnihotri has also been active in extracurricular activities. During interactions in the preparation phase, he mentioned that he enjoys stand-up comedy and closely follows cricket.
While studying at AIIMS Jodhpur, he served as the batch representative for five years. In this role, he coordinated communication between students and faculty members, assisted in organising academic and cultural events, and helped maintain collaboration among students.
Policy Discussions During Civil Services Preparation
During mock interview discussions conducted as part of civil services preparation, Agnihotri spoke about several policy and governance issues. Drawing from his medical background, he discussed topics such as public health preparedness during pandemics, the importance of hospital infrastructure, and the need for effective communication between healthcare systems and the public.
He also highlighted the functioning of government health insurance schemes such as Ayushman Bharat, emphasising the importance of strengthening healthcare access and improving emergency response mechanisms.
UPSC CSE 2025 Recommended Candidates
The UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025 final merit list includes 958 candidates recommended for appointment to various services. Successful candidates will be considered for positions in:
- Indian Administrative Service (IAS)
- Indian Foreign Service (IFS)
- Indian Police Service (IPS)
- Central Services under Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’
The final allocation of services will depend on rank, candidate preferences, and available vacancies, as outlined in the Civil Services Examination Rules 2025.
