Smart India Hackathon 2025 Grand Finale Begins at WeSchool

The Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell (MIC) in collaboration with AICTE has launched the 8th Edition of Smart India Hackathon 2025, beginning 8th December across 60 nodal centres nationwide. Prin. L. N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research (WeSchool) is hosting the Software Grand Finale on 8–9 December.

 

This year, Smart India Hackathon 2025 received 72,165 idea submissions from 68,766 student teams, addressing 271 problem statements from ministries, state departments, PSUs, and industries. Out of 2,587 institutes and 1,42,715 teams, 1,360 teams comprising 8,160 students and 1,365 mentors have qualified for the Grand Finale.

 

Smart India Hackathon 2025 Highlights and Industry Support

Prateek Goswami, Additional General Manager, Central Railway, said the event demonstrates the potential of India’s youth to deliver practical, impactful solutions for real-world challenges. He added that initiatives like SIH have already benefited sectors such as predictive maintenance and passenger services, and encouraged participants to embrace challenges and use creativity responsibly to contribute to nation-building.

 

Prof. Dr. Uday Salunkhe, Group Director, WeSchool, highlighted that SIH aligns with the institution’s mission of nurturing professionals capable of solving real-world problems. He noted that hosting the Grand Finale provides students a chance to work with government ministries and industry experts, reinforcing the vision of youth-led nation building.

 

About Smart India Hackathon

Launched in 2017, the hackathon has been conducted in Software and Hardware editions since 2018. SIH encourages patent filings, supports student-led startups, and enables the adoption of innovative solutions by government bodies and industries.

 

The 2025 edition focuses on critical sectors including Space Technology, Renewable Energy, Cybersecurity, Defence Technology, MedTech, Robotics & Drones, Smart Education, AgriTech, and Smart Automation. Over 8,160 students are participating, demonstrating national integration and the spirit of Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat. The event continues to promote India’s transition toward an innovation-led, knowledge-driven economy in line with Viksit Bharat @2047.
