NTA Clarifies Calculator Rule for JEE Main 2026: No Digital Tools

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially clarified that no calculators—physical or on-screen—will be allowed in the upcoming JEE Main 2026 examination. The clarification follows a typographical error found in the original information brochure that mistakenly mentioned the availability of an on-screen calculator.

NTA Withdraws Calculator Feature Mention from JEE Main Bulletin

In a public notice issued on November 2, 2025, NTA confirmed that the reference to an on-screen calculator and accessibility mode in the earlier brochure was incorrect. The agency stated that the feature belongs to its generic testing platform and not to JEE Main. “NTA regrets the typographic error in the Information Bulletin of JEE (Main) 2026 and for the inconvenience caused to the candidates,” the official notice mentioned.

The revised JEE Main 2026 Information Bulletin has now been uploaded on the official website — jeemain.nta.nic.in. Candidates have been advised to download the updated version to avoid any confusion.

NTA Expands Exam Cities for JEE Main 2026

In addition to the clarification, NTA has expanded the total number of JEE Main 2026 exam cities from 284 to 323, ensuring better accessibility for students across India. The move is expected to reduce travel challenges for candidates, particularly in smaller towns. Meanwhile, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has directed affiliated schools to share Class 11 registration data with NTA. This step aims to prevent any scheduling conflicts between the CBSE Class 12 board exams and JEE Main 2026.
