NMC Approves 6,850 New MBBS Seats for 2025–26 Academic Year

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved 6,850 additional MBBS seats for the 2025–26 academic year, aiming to increase medical education opportunities across India. This expansion will benefit aspiring doctors among the 1.23 million students who qualified in NEET-UG 2025.

Notable New MBBS Colleges and Seats

Several new medical colleges have been sanctioned with specified seat allocations to improve access to medical education.

  • Government Colleges: Government Medical College, Kasaragod, Kerala (50 seats); ESIC Medical College, Noida, Uttar Pradesh (50 seats).
  • Private Colleges: Anna Gowri Medical College and Hospital, Andhra Pradesh (100 seats); Balvir Singh Tomar Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Rajasthan (150 seats).

Seat Hold Due to Non-Compliance

Around two thousand seats have been temporarily withheld across various colleges due to non-compliance with NMC regulations. These institutions have been given a chance to rectify deficiencies to unlock the seats.

Impact on Medical Admissions

This seat expansion is expected to reduce the pressure on medical admissions, providing more opportunities for aspiring MBBS students nationwide. Students applying through NEET-UG 2025 will now have increased options across government and private medical colleges for the 2025–26 academic year.
