IIM Udaipur Exits CAP, Announces Independent MBA Admissions 2026-28

IIM Udaipur has decided to exit the Common Admission Process (CAP) starting with the MBA batch 2026-28. The institute will conduct its own admissions process using CAT scores, Written Ability Test (WAT), and personal interviews. This shift aims to better reflect IIM Udaipur’s academic priorities and global outlook. The new process will take effect for admissions after CAT 2025, which is scheduled for November 30, 2025. Applicants who register for CAT 2025 will be eligible under IIM Udaipur’s new process.

What Changes with IIM Udaipur Independent Admission?

  • IIM Udaipur will frame its own shortlisting criteria and parameters to align with its institute-specific values and strengths.
  • Candidates will still need to appear for CAT 2025. Using their CAT percentile, selected students will be shortlisted for WAT and personal interviews. These will be conducted in key Indian cities and also at the IIM Udaipur campus to ensure accessibility.

Candidates who previously relied on the CAP system will now apply specifically through IIM Udaipur’s separate portal/process post-CAT. Registration for CAT 2025 remains open to those interested.

Why the Change & Effects?

IIM Udaipur says this move is to provide an “applicant-focused admissions experience”, giving more flexibility in selecting candidates who align with its vision and academic rigour. This change may affect applicants who prefer CAP for multiple IIMs; they will need to separately apply to IIM Udaipur post-CAT if interested. Also, selection stages like WAT and interview might add to the cost or logistics for students, but the access across locations is intended to balance this.
