NIT Tiruchirappalli has scheduled the NIMCET 2026 entrance exam for June 6, 2026 to admit students into MCA programmes at 11 NITs and two IIITs. Candidates should meet qualifying criteria and prepare for the CBT-mode paper with four sections before applying online.

The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Tiruchirappalli has announced that the NIT MCA Common Entrance Test 2026 will be held on 06 June 2026. The computer-based test (CBT) will run from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm and will serve as the basis for admission to Master of Computer Applications (MCA) programmes offered by 11 NITs and 2 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) for the 2026-27 academic session.

 

NIMCET 2026: Eligibility Criteria for Applicants

Candidates wishing to appear for NIMCET 2026 must satisfy the eligibility conditions specified by the conducting institute:

  • Must hold a bachelor’s degree of at least three years duration (such as B.Sc/BCA/BIT/BBA (Computer Applications)) with Mathematics or Statistics as one of the subjects at the 10+2 or undergraduate level.
  • Should have secured a minimum of 60% marks or a 6.5 CGPA (on a 10-point scale) in the qualifying degree.
  • SC/ST and PwD candidates are eligible with minimum 55% marks or a 6.0 CGPA.
  • Candidates with a BE/BTech degree are also eligible to apply.

Students appearing for the final qualifying examination in the academic year 2025-26 may also apply, subject to producing proof of eligibility by the time of admission.

 

NIMCET 2026 Exam Pattern and Structure

The NIMCET 2026 exam will be conducted in online CBT mode with a total of 120 multiple-choice questions (MCQs). These questions will be divided across four sections:

  • Mathematics: 50 questions
  • Analytical Ability & Reasoning: 40 questions
  • Computer Awareness: 20 questions
  • English: 10 questions

The test is designed to assess quantitative ability, reasoning, logic, programming fundamentals and communication skills. Each section contributes to the overall score that determines the candidate’s rank.

 

NIMCET 2026 Registration and Application Process

The registration process for NIMCET 2026 will start soon on the official portal nimcet.admissions.nic.in. Eligible candidates must:

  1. Visit the official website and create a login profile.
  2. Fill in personal and academic details accurately.
  3. Upload scanned copies of photographs, signature and other required documents.
  4. Pay the application fee online.
  5. Submit the form and download the confirmation page for future reference.

NIMCET Exam Participating Institutes and Seats

NIMCET 2026 will facilitate MCA admissions into:

  • 11 NITs: Agartala, Allahabad, Bhopal, Jamshedpur, Kurukshetra, Meghalaya, Patna, Raipur, Tiruchirappalli, Warangal and one more participating NIT.
  • 2 IIITs: IIIT Bhopal and IIIT Vadodara.

Seats will be allocated based on the candidate’s rank, category and choice of institute during the counselling process after results are declared.

 

NIMCET Exam Day and Preparation Tips

Candidates should:

  • Reach the exam centre well before reporting time, with a printed admit card and valid photo ID.
  • Revise key topics like mathematics fundamentals, logical reasoning and computer basics in advance.
  • Practice previous year papers and mock tests to improve time management and accuracy in the CBT format.
