The NIFT Entrance Exam 2026 was held on 8 February 2026 for admissions into B.Des, B.F.Tech, M.Des, M.F.Tech and MFM programmes. Students have shared early reactions and paper impressions following the conclusion of both GAT and CAT shifts. Initial reports highlight exam conduct, structure and candidate perspectives on difficulty and question types.
The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Entrance Exam 2026 was conducted on 8 February 2026 across multiple cities in India under the supervision of the National Testing Agency (NTA). Aspirants appeared in two major shifts for the General Ability Test (GAT) and Creative Ability Test (CAT) components as scheduled.
Overview of NIFT 2026 Exam Shifts and Structure
The NIFT Stage 1 test was held on 8 February 2026 in hybrid format:
- GAT (General Ability Test) – Computer-based and objective-type questions
- CAT (Creative Ability Test) – Paper-based exam focusing on design skills and creativity
The first shift for GAT commenced at 10:00 AM, while the CAT session began at 3:00 PM, in accordance with the shift timetable shared by authorities. Students were required to report early and carry valid admit cards with official photo ID proofs for entry into examination centres. This year’s exam spanned 102 cities across India with separate timing windows for different programmes.
Early Paper Impressions and Student Feedback
Candidates and on-site observers have shared initial impressions soon after both shifts concluded. Early feedback suggests that the GAT portion generally tested core aptitude areas such as verbal ability, logical reasoning, quantitative skills and current affairs. Students noted that time management in this section was crucial given the breadth of questions. In contrast, the CAT paper focused on creative expression, illustration skills and design thinking, requiring aspirants to demonstrate originality and clarity in visual representation. Many examinees highlighted the importance of concept development and idea articulation in this segment — especially in rendering concepts under time constraints. While official difficulty ratings are yet to be released, student responses indicate a balanced level of challenge across sections, with creative tasks pushing aspirants to think beyond routine patterns.
What Comes Next After the Exam?
Following the conclusion of the NIFT 2026 entrance exam, the provisional answer key will be made available on the official NTA portal for candidates to download and review. Aspiring design students will also have an opportunity to raise objections to the answer key within a stipulated window set by authorities. Once the answer key challenge period closes, the final results are expected to be released in the coming months as per the NTA exam calendar. Performance in both GAT and CAT will determine qualifiers for further rounds such as situation tests or interviews where applicable.
