The National Testing Agency (NTA) has updated the NEET UG 2026 registration process with Aadhaar‑based eKYC and live photo capture requirements. The changes also include more structured exam city and language allocation to strengthen identity checks and enhance fairness during registration.

NEET UG 2026 Registration: Aadhaar eKYC, Live Photo Capture and Key Changes

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has implemented significant updates to the NEET UG 2026 registration process to tighten identity verification and reduce impersonation risks. Prospective medical aspirants must carefully follow these changes while applying through the official portal.

Aadhaar‑Based eKYC for Identity Verification

A major development in this year’s NEET UG application process is the introduction of Aadhaar‑based electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC). During online registration, candidates’ Aadhaar details will be electronically verified to confirm identity and eliminate duplicates or fraudulent applications. This aims to ensure that only genuine candidates can complete the form submission.

Mandatory Live Photograph Capture

Instead of submitting a pre‑clicked photograph, applicants will now be required to capture a live image in real time during the application process. The captured image will be matched with the Aadhaar database to authenticate the candidate’s identity. If discrepancies occur, candidates may need to upload supporting certificates as per instructions on the portal. This system helps prevent impersonation and ensures that the person filling the form is the same who will appear for the exam.

Smarter Exam City and Language Allocation

Another notable change is in the selection of examination city and medium of question paper. NTA has linked these options more closely with the candidate’s present and permanent address provided in the form. This reduces arbitrary city preferences and logistical mismatches, helping balance test‑centre distribution and fairness across regions.

Core Structure Unchanged but Verification Tightened

The overall exam pattern and dates for NEET UG 2026 remain consistent with previous years, with the application window, form submission guidelines, and fees largely unchanged. However, the enhanced verification procedures mark a shift in the registration ecosystem toward greater transparency and integrity.

Guidance for Applicants

Candidates must ensure that Aadhaar details — name, date of birth and photo — are correctly updated before starting the NEET UG 2026 application. Any mismatch could delay the verification process or result in application rejection. Aspirants should also prepare a functional device (webcam or smartphone) to capture the live photo, and carefully follow instructions to avoid errors during submission.
