The NEET UG 2026 Re-Exam FAQs Released by NTA; Key Guidelines Explained update has brought relief and clarity for lakhs of medical aspirants preparing for the re-conducted examination scheduled on June 21, 2026. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued a detailed Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) document addressing major concerns raised by candidates and parents following the cancellation of the earlier examination due to alleged irregularities and paper leak allegations The official clarification covers important aspects such as:

  • Fee refund process
  • Exam city preference modification
  • Admit card release
  • Examination timing
  • Re-exam eligibility
  • Complaint submission mechanism

The NEET UG 2026 re-examination will now be conducted in pen-and-paper mode on June 21, 2026 across examination centres in India.

 

NEET UG 2026 Re-Exam Date and Official Schedule

The National Testing Agency has officially confirmed that the NEET UG 2026 re-test will take place on:

  • June 21, 2026 (Sunday)

The examination timing will be:

  • 2 PM to 5:15 PM

The duration includes time allocated for examination formalities and verification procedures. The re-exam became necessary after the cancellation of the May 03 NEET UG examination amid nationwide controversy over alleged paper leaks and malpractice. More than 22 lakh candidates are expected to reappear for the examination

 

NTA Clarifies NEET UG 2026 Fee Refund Process

One of the major concerns among candidates involved the refund of examination fees and additional payments for the re-exam. According to the NTA FAQs:

  • Candidates will not be required to pay any additional fee for the re-examination
  • A separate portal for bank account details submission for fee refund-related processes will be made available

The agency clarified that eligible students who already registered for the earlier examination will automatically remain eligible for the June 21 re-test.

 

NEET UG 2026 Exam City Preference Change Facility

The NTA has also allowed candidates to modify their preferred examination city if they have shifted residence after the cancellation of the original examination.

 

Important Details About City Preference Changes

Candidates can:

  • Change present address details
  • Select new preferred exam cities
  • Choose first and second city preferences

Important conditions include:

  • No additional fee will be charged
  • Only city preference and current address can be modified
  • No other correction in application details will be allowed

The city modification facility will remain available till May 21, 2026.

 

NEET UG 2026 Admit Card Release Timeline

NTA has informed candidates that fresh admit cards will be issued for the re-examination.

 

According to official updates:

  • Admit cards are expected to be released approximately 4–5 days before the exam
  • City intimation slips will also be issued separately

Candidates are advised to regularly monitor the official website neet.nta.nic.in for updates regarding admit cards and examination centres.

 

NTA Explains Complaint and Grievance Process

The FAQs also explain the process for candidates wishing to report examination-related grievances or irregularities. The agency stated that:

NEET UG 2026 Re-Exam Pattern and Mode

The NEET UG 2026 re-exam will continue in:

  • Offline pen-and-paper mode

However, Union Education Ministry officials have indicated that:

  • NEET UG may shift to a computer-based test (CBT) format from the next academic cycle

The current re-exam will follow the existing syllabus and examination pattern applicable for NEET UG 2026.

The cancellation of the original examination triggered widespread debate regarding examination security and administrative reforms. Several developments followed:
