NEET UG 2026 registration includes updated rules for exam city allocation and language preferences. From 2026, the National Testing Agency will assign exam centres based on Aadhaar-registered address and offer question papers in up to 13 languages.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has clarified key rules for NEET UG 2026 exam city allocation and language preferences for candidates registering for India’s national medical entrance test. These guidelines form part of the revised registration process for the upcoming exam cycle.
NEET UG 2026 Exam Languages and Medium Options
The NEET UG exam will be conducted in multiple languages, allowing candidates to choose a language medium they prefer at the time of registration. According to the official guidelines, the question paper will be available in 13 languages, including:
- Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu
Once a language option is selected during registration, it cannot be changed later. If there is any discrepancy in translation, the English version of the question paper will be treated as final.
Revised Exam City Allocation Rule for NEET UG
For NEET UG 2026, the facility to choose preferred exam city centres by candidates in the application form has been significantly revised. As per the NTA’s updated policy, candidates will no longer be able to select their exam city manually. Instead, the system will assign exam centres based on the candidate’s Aadhaar-registered address. This new approach is intended to improve transparency and reduce the risk of malpractices such as impersonation.
Under this rule:
- The exam centre will be automatically allotted according to the address on the candidate’s Aadhaar card.
- Aspirants are advised to verify and update their Aadhaar address details before the application process begins, as updates cannot be made once the registration window opens.
- The new system is aimed to benefit students by allocating centres nearer to their permanent or registered address, especially for those from smaller towns or rural areas.
Impact on Candidates and Registration
Under previous NEET UG city selection rules, candidates could choose a list of preferred cities when filling out application forms, with allotment based on those preferences and availability. The revised allocation removes this choice, making it mandatory that all candidates rely on an Aadhaar-based city allocation system. The NTA has also tightened document verification procedures, requiring exact matches of personal details (such as name and date of birth) across Aadhaar, class 10 records, and other supporting documents to avoid application rejections or discrepancies during centre allocation.
What Candidates Must Know Before Applying?
Prospective NEET UG 2026 applicants should take the following points into account during registration:
- Double-check Aadhaar details well before starting the application process
- Choose preferred language carefully on the application form, as no changes will be permitted later
- Ensure all personal and category-related documents are consistent to avoid application cancellation.
These updated rules for exam city allocation and language preferences reflect the NTA’s effort to standardise the NEET UG registration and exam-taking experience across candidates nationwide.
