The National Testing Agency (NTA) has outlined specific qualifying exam codes (01–07) that aspirants must correctly enter during NEET UG 2026 registration. Each code corresponds to a candidate’s academic background, from Class 12 appearing students to degree holders. Choosing the right code is crucial to avoid issues during counselling and verification.
The NEET UG 2026 application process requires candidates to enter a qualifying exam code that matches their academic qualification in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) form. These codes help the National Testing Agency (NTA) categorise applicants and ensure they meet basic eligibility criteria for admission to undergraduate medical and allied health courses.
NEET 2026 Qualifying Exam Codes and Eligibility
The NEET 2026 application form includes a field titled “Qualifying Exam Code” under the section for qualification details. Candidates must select the correct code based on their highest completed or currently pursued qualifying exam. The codes are as follows:
Why Selecting the Right Code Matters in NEET 2026?
Accurate selection of the qualifying exam code in the NEET 2026 application form is crucial because the code determines how the NTA classifies academic eligibility. Mistakes in this field can lead to complications during later stages such as document verification, counselling, and seat allotment. Candidates who do not match their actual qualification with the correct code risk delays or rejection of their candidature. For example:
- If a student has passed Class 12 but selects Code 01 (for appearing), the application may not match the supporting documents later.
- Candidates with a BSc degree must choose Code 06 even if they have passed Class 12 because the higher qualification overrides the earlier one.
How to Enter the Qualifying Code in the NEET 2026 Form?
When filling the NEET UG 2026 form on the official NTA portal (neet.nta.nic.in), candidates will encounter a section titled “Qualification Details”. Within this section:
- Navigate to the Class 12 or equivalent qualification section.
- Locate the field labelled Qualifying Exam Code.
- Choose the correct code from the dropdown based on your academic status.
- Double-check before submission to avoid errors that could affect your application later.
Selecting the correct code ensures a smooth verification process during counselling and reduces the risk of discrepancies between the portal data and your submitted documents.
