Kerala KITE Launches Statewide Robotics Training for Class 10 Students

The Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE), the technology arm of the state’s general education department, has launched a statewide robotics training programme for all Class 10 students studying in government and aided schools. Officials described the initiative as a significant step in strengthening technology-driven learning in Kerala’s public education system.

Around Four Point Five Lakh Students to Benefit

According to K Anvar Sadath, Chief Executive Officer of KITE, the programme aims to empower nearly four point five lakh Class 10 students across the state. The training is being implemented through structured robotics workshops conducted in schools. These workshops are being led by Little KITES, India’s largest student-led IT network, and are scheduled to be completed in all participating schools by January fifteen.

Linked to Revised Class 10 IT Curriculum

The robotics training has been designed in line with the revised Class 10 Information Technology syllabus. Officials said the initiative will help students gain practical exposure to robotics concepts that have been newly introduced in the textbook, while also supporting preparation for the SSLC examinations scheduled this year. The programme focuses on bridging the gap between theory and hands-on application, especially in emerging technology areas.

Two-Session Training Structure Explained

The training programme has been divided into two structured sessions to ensure conceptual clarity and practical learning.

Session One: Conceptual Understanding

  • Introduction to robotics and its real-world applications
  • Explanation of core components of robotic systems, including input devices (sensors), processors (microcontrollers), and output devices (actuators)
  • Familiarisation with KITE-provided robotic kits such as Arduino UNO boards, breadboards, and LEDs

Session Two: Hands-on Coding and Practice

  • Practical training using PictoBlox block-based coding software
  • Activities including LED blinking, buzzer operation, and basic robotic control tasks

Training Support and Kit Distribution

The workshops are being conducted under the guidance of trained Little KITES student members and mentors in each school. To ensure effective participation, KITE has provided a robotic kit for every group of four to five students. Schools that do not have active Little KITES units have been instructed to organise the training with support from nearby schools where such units are functional.
