Kerala KEAM 2026 to Use Tamil Nadu-Style Normalisation Formula

The Kerala Engineering Architecture and Medical (KEAM) 2026 engineering admissions will follow a normalisation formula similar to Tamil Nadu’s model. Ranks will be prepared with 50:50 weightage between entrance exam score and final year qualifying exam marks in PCM.
The Kerala Engineering Architecture and Medical (KEAM) 2026 engineering admission process will adopt a Tamil Nadu-model normalisation formula for rank preparation. Under this system, the engineering rank list will be prepared by giving equal weightage (50:50) to the normalised engineering entrance exam score and the final year qualifying examination marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry combined. This approach aims to integrate candidates’ performance in both the state entrance test and their qualifying board results, ensuring a balanced assessment across varied educational backgrounds.
50:50 Weightage Between Entrance and Board Marks
In the updated normalisation model, candidates’ engineering admission ranks will be determined based on:
- 50% weightage to the normalised score obtained in the KEAM 2026 Engineering Entrance Examination
- 50% weightage to the qualifying examination marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (after standardisation)
This structure mirrors the method used in Tamil Nadu for standardising marks across different board examinations, with a focus on equitable evaluation. Under the qualifying exam component, the marks from the final year of the qualifying examination are combined in the ratio of 5:3:2 for Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry respectively, making the total out of 300 marks. The engineering entrance score is also normalised to 300 marks. These two components are then integrated equally to determine the final index used for ranking.
Normalisation Process and Rank List Preparation
Since the KEAM exam is conducted across multiple sessions, a normalisation process is applied to ensure fairness across different shifts, producing comparable scores for all candidates. After normalisation of entrance scores and board marks as per the accepted statistical procedures, the combined index (out of 600) is used to prepare the KEAM 2026 engineering rank list. This method helps reconcile performance disparities arising from different board marking standards and examination conditions, and makes the evaluation more consistent across diverse candidate groups.

Candidates preparing for KEAM 2026 should emphasise both entrance exam preparation and academic performance in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Strong performance in Class 12 board exams will be equally significant as the entrance test score in determining the final engineering rank. Detailed official guidelines on normalisation, rank list publication timelines and counselling procedures will be released by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, Kerala (CEE) on the official portal cee.kerala.gov.in.
